Campers often had a close relationship with the Trainees, Foresters, and junior counselors assigned to their group, who were closer to their age than the older counselors. However, even without that advantage, Lincoln Manacher would have been someone special. He was warm and enthusiastic, and related easily to campers. A student at Union College, he delighted in leading us in a rousing rendition of his fraternity song.
The picture below shows a surprise birthday party we gave for Linc, complete with an L-shaped cake.
Not long after that summer, Linc died suddenly of acute leukemia. I believe he was 21 years old.
